COACH'S COMMENT - From Head Coach: Richard Sutton
Firstly, I would like to thank everyone for the friendly welcome and support that you have given me in the two months since I started work for the Club. The time has flown by and I am starting to find my feet. I look forward to working with you in the future. Squad Promotions A number of people have approached me over the last month or so in regard to having their children assessed to move up. For me the difficulty lies in determining exactly where to draw the boundaries for the various squads. I am working hard on this at the present. As a result there will be not promotions until the start of the second term. Currently, Adrian and I are grouping swimmers of similar ability into separate lanes within each squad. Factors that we are looking at when we are doing this are technical ability, skill level, age and swimming experience. It is important for the long term development of a swimmer that they do not get advanced beyond their ability to cope with the extra training load without compromising their technique, skill level or love of the sport. Punctuality One of the biggest differences that I have noticed in my move South is the late arrival of swimmers to practice. At 4.00pm we often have ¾ of the class arriving late. This is extremely disruptive to those swimmers who have made an effort to arrive on time and is placing a limitation on what we are able to achieve during the session. Please remember that the start time that you have been given is the time I expect swimmers to be ready to hop in the pool, not the time they should be turning up. Finally, I would like to encourage people who have questions to approach me on pool deck and ask them. As you can appreciate, some times are better than others. If I do not appear to be too busy, feel free to come up for a quick chat. You may be asked to wait for a few minutes but I will do my best to be with you as soon as reasonably possible. |
