GOODBYE HEAD COACH KAREN
It was with sadness that we received the news that Karen Venables, Hamilton Swimming Club's Head Coach for nearly five years, has decided to leave us. Despite knowing that Karen had been doing her law degree at Waikato when we appointed her to the position of head coach for the club, it didn't really occur to us that she would leave us to actually become a lawyer when she qualified. However the reality is that she has, and will be leaving soon. Karen has seen the level of swimming within the club improve during her time as head coach and has been a significant influence in assisting the stability of the club's swimming success. We extend a warm welcome to all Club Members to join us for a farewell to Karen on Friday 15th November 2002, 5.30pm at the Club Pool. Please bring a plate of finger food to this farewall BBQ evening. |

COACHING CLINIC.
The Coaching Clinic held on Labour weekend was a great success. Approximately 20 swimmers participated with five swimmers from Whitianga. Karen was outstanding in her presentation of the techniques for each individual stroke. Video's were taken of swimmers, and each individual swimmer could see themselves on the video monitor. Karen was then able to show the necessary corrections required. Fantastic stuff Karen!! A special thanks must go to senior swimmers, Connor Chesham, Daniel Bird, Rachael Lornie and Robyn Lornie for assisting Karen. Without their support it would have made her job that much more difficult in trying to get across the techniques required to help swimmers improve. Whitianga Club were so impressed they have asked Hamilton Club to run another training session next year. |

SHOP AND UNIFORMS
The Committee really appreciates the effort that Jan Barr and Dene Green have made in ensuring the supply and sale of uniforms. They have organised this area and there are plenty of stocks of togs etc available to purchase. Jan has also taken over the role of stocking the shop of all the goodies that are available. We are also employing the pool attendant until 5.30pm each day so that purchases can be made. Please support our efforts - profits from the shop go back into funds to support our swimmers. The Club has the following uniform items for sale: |

LEARN2SWIM
Enrolments for Learn to Swim are meeting our expectations, but there are still some vacancies available. The organisation of this by Liz, Karen and Diane has been tremendous and the club really appreciates the input by them. Our qualified instructors are; Daniel Bird, Jessica Walker, Rachael Lornie, Robyn Lornie, Connor Chesham, Shona Hutt and Erin van Rooy. The programme is overseen by Diane Oldridge. Thank you Diane for your tremendous enthusiasm and support. |

PAYMENT OF FEES
Response to payment of fees for summer training has been high - in particular payments being made to claim the discount. Clarification - there is no discount on the membership fee - only on the coaching fees. |
|
CLUB FLYERS
Have your seen our fanastic flyers regarding the Club and Learn2Swim. If you can help to promote the club by taking them into your local school, kindergarten, play centre, workplace or where ever, the committee would appreciate the assistance. This will keep our promotion costs down and help promote the name of Hamilton Swimming Club in the Community. The Flyers were prepared by John van Rooy and Shona Hutt - many thanks for doing this great job. |

CLUB NIGHTS
WHEN? Club Nights are held fortnightly throughout the season. The next Club Night will be held on Thursday 21st November 2002 starting 6pm. Remember to enter by 7pm on the Wed before Club Night. Swimmers from Seals, Penguins and Dolphins are warmly encouraged to enter into Club Nights. There are 25m races, including flipper races for beginner swimmers. OFFICIALS: Parents please come to Club Nights and become involved in the Club. We always need timekeepers and Club Nights are an excellent opportunity to learn the various jobs done by officials. We also need officials to help at swim carnivals and Club Nights are part of the training program to help parents become qualified as officials. LOST PROPERTY: Any lost property is recorded in the Lost Property book, held beneath the counter in the Pool Shop. Lost property is kept in a locked storeroom at the Pool and all lost property will be available for inspection at Club Nights. FAMILY BARBEQUES There will be a family barbeque at the pool following The Christmas Carnival. There will also be a family barbeque (for all of the family) following the last Club Night in November - Thursday 21st. Don't forget the get together for Karen's farewell Friday November 15th. |

HAMILTON CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL
THE CARNIVAL: The Great Once-A-Year Hamilton Christmas Carnival is on again. Entries for the meet to be held on Saturday 30th November 2002, close on 23 November. See notice board for details. This is an important swimming event on our Club Calendar and is always well attended by other Clubs. The Christmas Carnival is held at our pool and is a good fundraising day. There are raffle tickets for sale for Christmas Hampers. Each swimmer will be given raffle tickets to sell. Please contact Jan Barr (ph 846 4619) or at the pool any evening after 5.30pm if you require extra tickets or prefer not to be involved in their sale. Money can also be returned to Jan or handed into the shop in an envelope marked "raffle money". We also need donations for the Christmas Hamper. Any type of non-perishable festive season contribution will be very welcome. There is a box in the shop for Hamper donations. ALL DAY PARKING: All day parking is available at Woolworths Bridge Street for $5.00 per day. This may be a good place to park now that other long term parking around the pool tends to disappear on the weekends. |
|
