Congratulations: Our head coach, Karen Venables and assistants Adrian Pooley and Diane Oldridge are pleased with the performance of many of our swimmers. Particular congratulations go to Janelle Cowley and Ryan Swart for their recent achievements. Janelle broke the Waikato Short Course record for 100m IM (12yr girl) that was formerly held by Casey Donoghue. Ryan broke the Long and Short Course records for 50m Free (12yr boy). The short course record was formerly held by Ross Dunwoody - another Hamilton Club swimmer. In addition, Rachel and Robyn Lornie and Janelle Cowley will compete in the NZ Winter Nationals to be held in Hamilton from 21 - 25 September 2002. Very best wishes go to these swimmers from all of the Club. Development coaching day for swimmers: - Saturday or Sunday 26/27 October (Labour Weekend). See notice board for details and registration forms. Cost is $30 including lunch and BBQ at end of day. Swimmers must be able to swim at least 100m in each stroke. The format will be as follows:

RECORDING SUB-COMMITTEE
Club Nights: Fun Pizza Night for winter training = Friday 20 September, 5.30 -6.15pm. This will be a fun night followed by pizzas for swimmers. To be held at the Club's pool in Victoria Street. First Club Night for the summer season = Thursday 10 October starting at 6pm (our pool). Parents please be prepared to help with time keeping. Club Nights will be fortnightly during the summer season. Club Night programmes are on the notice board from each Monday of a Club Night week. Entries should be in the Club Night box (also under the notice board) by 7pm each Wed before Club Night. First Club Night entries are due 7pm Wed 9 Oct. Remember that events swum also count toward Club trophies. Achievement Certificates: The Club offers 3 categories of certificate.
A number of swimmers did not collect their updated certificates at prize giving. These can be collected from Karen Cowley at the Fun/Pizza Night and during training hours from the beginning of summer training. Please contact Karen Cowley (ph 856 2822) if you would like them before then. Check the notice board when summer training starts for details about updating certificates. Notice board: Please keep an eye on the notice board for notices and for carnival information. Meet entry forms, Club Night entry forms, race results, certificate and other Club information is all on the notice board. Meet entries need to be put (with entry fee) into the meet entry box below the notice board approximately one week before the entries close. Blue Book: The Blue Book is an essential source of information concerning all swim meets, NZ swim club information and swimming rules. Published by the Swim Waikato Centre, it costs $5.00 and will be available from Gaye Chesham at Club Nights. Check the notice board to see when the Blue Book is available. For Club Night or carnival queries contact one of the recording team: Jenny Lornie (ph 07 824 4804), Karen Cowley (ph 856 2822), Jane Magill (ph 847 7703). Officials: All swim meets, including Club Nights, function with "parental" help. If you are not yet involved, there are plenty of opportunities for you to assist and your offer of help will be warmly received. All clubs are rostered as 'duty club' to cater for meets and we also need to provide meet officials. Please assist with providing food when we are the duty club, even if your child is not swimming. Jan Barr is the coordinator for duty club catering. Officials are needed for; timekeeping, inspecting turns and strokes, starting and refereeing. Training is given and qualified officials receive badges recognising their level of qualification. Being an official is an excellent way to meet other parents, help swimmers and learn new skills. It's by far the best way to have fun at a swim meet (if you're not competing). Also, officials do not have to pay for entry to meets. Please contact Gaye Chesham (ph 856 2409) to volunteer. Anyone wanting experience as team manager for swim meets should also contact Gaye Chesham or Jenny Lornie. Officials Introduction / Refresher course: A course for new and existing parent officials will be hels at 5:00pm Friday 8th October at the pool. Details will be posted on notice board or contact Jenny Lornie. |
