| President’s Point W ell things have been really been moving along down at the pools. Hamilton City Council has it’s contractors undertaking the remedial works identified as being needed during the most recent pool audit. The work to date while not nearly complete, looks like it will be ready by the 8th of October deadline. The official opening will be held during our Pre-Christmas Meet on 1st of December 2001. The Mayor, councillors and council staff involved in the Project will be invited to attend. Again congratulations to HCC on the upgrade. Karen’s Korna. (Coaches Corner) G etting back into the outdoor pool means we have to adjust our ways. It is important especially, fot the first few months to bring warm clothing for wearing after training. If you are buying new goggles, tinted goggles are better for the outdoor pool. Snack food e.g. honey / jam sandwiches, fruit, crackers are really good before train-ing especially straight after school. Remember to bring your own drink bottle to training. Water is the best drink. Looking forward to seeing everyone back in our own pool in October. Students and others, have a good holiday. Wanted: Officials A s mentioned by Gaye Chesham, the officials convenor, she appreciates the positive response she has had when approaching folk in the club to officate at meets. As people come and go from the club, it is timely to remind us all that the club functions with “parental” help. If you are not yet involved, there are plenty of opportunities to assist. We are all called on to assist with catering food for meets as well as acting as officials. Training will be given for; timekeeping, inspectors of turns and of strokes, starters and referees. By the way the officials generally have the best time at meets, eating, drinking, and chatting, especially if you get on a lane with Wayne Walker. | Promotions and Sponsorship A s the completion of the first stage of the pool upgrade nears, we have the opportunity to raise finances by way of advertising hoardings on the grandstand and above the shelter/shop area. There are up to 23, 1.4m x 0.6m sponsorship spots available. It is envisaged that each spot would be available in 5 year blocks at a donation of $200/year. If you would like one of the spots for your business or know of a business that would consider advertising please contact our promotions officer, Alan Barclay. Bluebooks for sale B lue have arrived and are now for sale at $5.00 each. See Gaye Chesham or any one from the committee if you would like to buy one. For those not familiar with the Bluebook, it is published by the Swim Waikato Centre and contains the list of all swim meets in New Zealand for the current swimming season. It also includes NZ swim club information and swimming rules etc. It is essential for any competitive swimmer. New Committee New sletter T he new committee has been busy since being elected at the AGM. To ensure that we are all kept up to date with what is going on in the club, and with swimming in general, we have started on our own web site development. This will be used to provide access to club and other users access to information about meets, meet entries, newsletters like this will be posted, pool history shown & club policies displayed etc. We will give details as this service comes on line. | A bigThanks I would like to thank all officials for the response I have had when requesting time keepers and other officials for meets.
